Be One-of-a-kind: Draw your own lines

In today’s design world it’s too easy (and expected) to go to one of the many stock illustration sites to provide illustrated content for clients. While you can find any illustration style and subject matter online, you risk your competition choosing that same piece of “clip art” for their advertising.

So in this day of homogenized illustration, grabbing a pencil and paper to create a completely original illustration gives your client one-of-a-kind creative advertising no one can duplicate.

So that’s just what we did for Zoo Run 2012. Here’s the front and back logo from the t-shirt design:

And here’s the steps to make that magic happen:

  • Hand drew the illustration with black ink on paper, no color – outline only
  • Scanned/digitized the illustration
  • Bring digitized black outline into Illustrator and color/fill each element using determined color palette for print/posters/shirts etc.

There’s never a dull moment at our offices! We recently created a Christmas video for our client, TTI Inc. Shot entirely at our office, this video is a little snip-it of what our team and neighbors got to hear during filming - and the car is just plain awesome.

We started this project brainstorming ideas for TTI’s holiday card and thought a video would fit in nicely with the rest of TTI’s Specialist campaign. With help from our friends at Track Daddy Productions for filming and editing, TTI’s “holiday card” is a must see.

View the the Christmas video here, can you believe this was shot in a 1/2 day?

Also, be sure to look for the two Schaefer people that make their film debuts - Oscar will be calling.

A Schaefer Christmas Party

Everyone’s doing it…It’s time to make the rounds at company Christmas parties. This year we added a twist to our extravaganza. We started the night by spreading a little Christmas cheer to our fellow Fort Worthians (Is that word?? I’m still relatively new here) in Sundance Square, hopped on a party bus, dined at our office and finished the night at Pete’s Piano Bar.

Did I mention we were in costume? Here are a few notable look-a-likes from our group.

Stay jolly,
~Kristin

We’ve got a rock star in our midst!

Well, he was a college rock star.

Meet Todd Lancaster, BSAPR’s new Creative Director.  While attending Abilene Christian University he was the bassist for a punk band named Papaw. Now Todd brings his talent as a creative rock star to BSAPR.

His creativity and passion for music inspired the electric guitars pictured. For Super Bowl XXII in 2008, Frito Lay’s national Doritos Crash the Super Bowl campaign needed to give awards to the finalists, Todd proposed they give out hand painted electric guitars instead of the usual boring trophies. Two similar hand painted acoustic guitars are displayed in his office and occasionally he will play a few tunes. I sit right outside his office so I get to hear his musical talent.

Todd is a Texas native who grew up in Irving. He describes his childhood as happy and adventurous, and Todd definitely had some thrills growing up. After a hard fall while skateboarding, Todd suffered from a head injury that left him with no sense of smell. Then, in high school he bungee jumped at the Royal Gorge in Colorado.

His best memories during his childhood were spent out on the boat with his dad doing various water activities. Can you picture a grandpa doing a 360 on a wakeboard? Well, Todd’s dad can.

Todd now shares his love for the water with his three kids, swimming with them in his pool or at their family’s favorite vacation spot on the beach in Galveston, TX.

Todd’s favorite part about his job is the creative challenges:

“I have to strive to be unique. I have to think of something that is different enough to get noticed,” Todd says.

This innovative thinking is seen in Todd’s hand painted electric guitars and many other campaigns he has worked on.

His adventures as kid, journey through college rock stardom, and every creative challenge have all, thankfully, led Todd to Blanchard Schaefer. We could not be happier to have him as our new Creative Director.
